How Cycle uses AI: the Claude reasoning layer behind Cycle Copilot and product digital twins

Cycle is built and operated with Anthropic Claude — Claude Code and Cowork for engineering and the Claude API for a continuous production reasoning layer that powers Cycle Copilot, merchant briefings and consumer-facing product digital twins.

What powers Cycle at the AI level?

Cycle is an AI operating system for physical-product businesses. Two Anthropic surfaces sit under it. Claude Code and Cowork build the platform — the Vue web application, the FastAPI reasoning edge, the native iOS app and the embedded Shopify app — and the Claude API runs the production reasoning layer that answers questions, writes daily briefings and, increasingly, talks to end consumers through product digital twins.

Deterministic engines still compute the verifiable business and regulatory numbers; Claude selects, interprets and explains them, preserves per-tenant memory and calls authorized tools. This keeps answers grounded while the model handles language, reasoning and orchestration.

What is the Cycle Copilot brain?

Cycle Copilot is an embedded agent shared across enterprise web, native iOS, the public Cycle Open experience and an embedded Shopify application. Its brain combines a governed product record, deterministic calculations, a persistent per-tenant operational memory and a tool layer that can filter, navigate, model, generate outputs and — with confirmation and undo — perform approved changes. The reasoning that ties these together runs on Claude through the Claude API, including streaming responses for a real-time feel.

How does continuous API usage work?

Unlike a one-off assistant, Cycle calls Claude continuously in production: interactive Copilot conversations, scheduled daily merchant briefings, the public Cycle Open copilot and operational-memory updates. Usage scales with the number of connected businesses and the depth of each interaction rather than a fixed batch job, which is why continuous inference — not a single integration — is the core of the workload.

How will digital twins drive interaction with users?

Cycle gives every physical product a digital twin, reachable from a QR or NFC tag on the item. The twin already shows the consumer the product story, care guidance, authenticity, resale route and the product's EU Digital Product Passport. The direction is a twin concierge that converses with the end consumer — answering questions, guiding care and resale and personalising the post-purchase relationship. As twins scale to millions of units multiplied by consumer conversations, real-time inference through the Claude API becomes the platform's largest and most continuous surface of interaction.

What is implemented versus direction?

Implemented today: agentic engineering with Claude, the Claude-powered Copilot and briefings, the public Cycle Open copilot and controlled Shopify actions with review and undo. Direction: aligning the consumer digital-twin assistant onto Claude and longer closed-loop workflows whose outcomes feed back into business memory. Cycle labels direction as direction rather than a claim about every live environment.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cycle build with Claude Code?

Yes. Claude Code and Cowork are used continuously to build and maintain Cycle’s web, backend, iOS and Shopify surfaces.

Does Cycle use the Claude API in production?

Yes. The production reasoning layer — Cycle Copilot, daily briefings and the public Cycle Open copilot — runs on the Claude API, with streaming responses and per-tenant memory.

How do digital twins relate to AI usage?

Each physical unit has a twin that can converse with the end consumer. As twin conversations scale, real-time Claude inference becomes the platform’s primary continuous cost and interaction surface.

Cycle describes current capabilities separately from product direction. Public Shopify access is read-only while merchant validation continues; consequential write-actions available in the controlled environment require human confirmation and support undo.
